"I sit here writing this in my journal wondering what happened to that excited little girl so many many years ago. The girl was willing to do anything to touch the stars. When I look up at the sparkling night sky from the astronomy tower, the stars seem farther. I can no longer reach my hands up and grab them as I had dreamed before. Maybe as you grow older, the small things which brought happiness, seem harder to find again."

Summary
It was nearing the end of his fifth year at Hogwarts, and Regulus Black was getting on with it. Things at home had been far from perfect since Sirius ran away and left him behind, but that didn't mean that he'd stopped caring about his brother altogether. He just wasn't willing to admit that to Sirius.
So when Regulus is woken one night by an infuriated Severus Snape, he doesn't want to get involved with whatever his brother's latest 'prank' is. But seeing him isolated from his friends in the following days, and worried about what the coming summer will bring, Regulus decides that he has no option but to get involved. He couldn't possibly be aware of what would happen when he pushes himself into the orbit of one James Potter. With the threat of war looming and Potter busy chasing that muggleborn girl, what could possibly pass between him and Regulus that would compromise the Slytherin?

Summary
Regulus Black is certain. He knows what he must do;
He must keep the Horcrux a secret, and he must face death in the hopes of bringing down his master.
Unless there's another option. One that will keep his head above water and the memories running through the mind of another.
Sirius Black too, is certain. He knows who he can trust;
He would trust James Potter over any other, trusts Remus and Peter just the same. (Alright, maybe he'd had some suspicions about Remus, but none that he'd admit.)
Until his little brother is there, cracking open his closest friendships and forcing him to re-evaluate what he knows and what he wants.
