    Summary

David Hollander arrives in Montreal with homemade soup, expecting to take care of his son Shane, who’s down with the flu after missing the biggest NHL game of the season.
What he does not expect is finding Shane cuddled in the lap of his greatest hockey rival: Boston Bears captain Ilya Rozanov.
Apparently the NHL’s most legendary rivalry has secretly been a relationship for over a decade.
Now David must process three shocking truths:
     his son is gay,
 Ilya Rozanov is basically a housewife with pharmacy bags,
 and every on-ice fight was apparently foreplay.

    David stared.

“You know Yuna makes tea with honey?”

    Ilya looked confused.

“Mr. Hollander, I have dated your son since Obama administration. I know many things.”

Shane groaned into his hands again.

    “Please stop saying sentences.”

    “No.”

David suddenly began laughing. He couldn’t help it.

The NHL rookies have joined forces to strategize now that two of the greatest hockey players of all time are on the same team and Ilya Rozanov must suffer from the unintended consequences of making hockey more woke.

Mainly, the way everyone keeps implying that they want to fuck his husband.

or: a group of rookies unionize and employ chirping as a form of psychological torture against a one Ilya Grigoryevich Rozanov.

    Summary

He knew it stung Ilya, people not understanding. It stung him too. Because to Shane, loving Ilya was like breathing and also like standing on solid ground after years of drifting. It flooded him and steadied him at the same time. It hurt, knowing the world reduced them to a rivalry, a strange story, a piece of scandalous gossip when what they had was so much more. He wanted to be by Ilya’s side for everything, the mundane, the bright and the hard. And maybe not everyone who was in love felt like this, so overwhelmed and so steadied all at once. But Shane did. And if love was a contest, well… he is the winner.
Best couple. Number one. Most epic love story ever.

Or 4 times Shane told people him and Ilya were practically soulmates and the 1 time the universe told him.

For a long moment, Shane just let the tears fall, the weight of the impossible pressing down on him. Then, with trembling hands, he fumbled for his phone. He scrolled through his gallery, his vision blurry, until he found it: a picture Ilya had shared only with him. A young boy, small and fierce on skates, being steadied by his mother, her face bright with love and pride as she looked down at him.

The same woman. The same kind eyes, the same curls.

He held the phone up, his hand shaking so badly his mom had to steady his wrist to see.

Yuna gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. Her eyes, wide and disbelieving, darted from the phone screen to the photo album and back. “Shane… is that… is that Ilya’s mom?”

He could only nod, his throat too tight for words.

    Summary

Shane and Ilya had mutually agreed to keep their whatever-they’re-doing out of Sochi. It was an easy decision to make: this was bigger than any MLH rivalry and definitely bigger than a few hotel hook-ups. There was no room for distractions, not with Olympic gold on the line.

So it’d be really fucking great if their daemons could get on the same page and stop trying to cause an international fucking incident.

The line of ocean water is receding into itself or it is coming back. Distance can be measured like that sometimes, Shane knows. Not by how close or far away you are, but by the direction you choose to go next.

    Summary

After the longest season of his career, Ilya retreats to the cottage with Shane, expecting rest, recovery, and a month of stolen peace. Instead, exhaustion lingers. Small things feel wrong. And the body that has always carried him through pain begins to falter in ways he can’t explain.

As concern grows and outside eyes begin to notice, the life Ilya and Shane have carefully built—careers, borders, futures—starts to feel fragile. When a medical crisis shatters their summer before answers arrive, love is no longer something they protect quietly. It becomes something they fight with.

A story about what happens when the body speaks before you’re ready to listen, and the people who refuse to let you face it alone.
