    Summary

Al-Haitham stands up too and uses the few inches he has over Kaveh to lean over him. "I suppose so. Thank you, Kaveh."

He doesn't know what compels him to do it—maybe it's the electric-hot pulse still thrumming through his veins from Kaveh's touch, his gentle fingers skating along the edges of his gloves, a heel tapping against his calf—but all Al-Haitham knows that it is Kaveh, on the edge of his peripheries, dancing just out of view, and he leans forward to place a single, delicate kiss along the bridge of his nose. Right along the freckles dotting his skin like stars.

The effects are immediate. A blush spreads like a wildfire along Kaveh's skin, which has always been a little too telling for Al-Haitham, and he splutters, blinking rapidly. "Why did you—"

He touches his nose in something akin to wonder, looking at Al-Haitham almost shyly, who grins and resolves immediately to learn how to be gentle if this is how he can make Kaveh come undone in return for peeling Al-Haitham apart like a ribbon with every glancing touch.

Five times Al-Haitham kisses Kaveh on the nose and one time Kaveh returns the favor.

    Summary

With Merlin's eyes on him, Cyran had braced for his nerves to fail him – for the Starshower spell to stutter and fizzle out, but it had held. It had done precisely what he had designed it to do, cascading in slow streams of light above the Lyceum rooftops. Merlin had looked on with undisguised wonder, and Cyran had kissed them before he'd thought better of it. Their noses bumped, and Merlin had pulled back and looked at him with an expression he had spent years failing to interpret. He was not sure he wanted to anymore. The uncertainty became a sort of comfort, something his mind could run away with in the dark. Neither of them ever spoke of the kiss again, not that night and not after, and it was not something a man of his composure ought to linger over – an awkward, stolen kiss in the schoolyard some twenty years ago. But the night was late, and the candles burned low, and Cyran was, beneath everything, only a man. He had been a boy in love once, and that boy had made something beautiful and thought of Merlin first.

Cyran reflects on his storied history with Merlin, and what it means to him that they no longer remember it.

    Summary

"There's no way you're actually still blushing," says Tighnari, sounding way too delighted about it.

Kaveh slaps a hand to his cheek in mortification. "I'm not! What would I be embarrassed about?"

"You just became the embodiment of a basic romance novel trope. You're flustered. You just got troped."

Kaveh groans and wishes he dared to get up and walk out of the cafe, but alas, his unpaid tab would haunt him both morally and financially. "To be part of a romance novel I would have to be in love."

"Well, I think your crush on Al-Haitham is enough to put you in the category," Tighnari says simply.

Kaveh's mouth falls open. On the table, a little potted plant mirrors his movements, sprawling leaves opening wide in shock. "What makes you think I have a crush on Al-Haitham?" he asks a little incredulously.

Tighnari opens his mouth and closes it, and then opens it again. "Oh dear," he says.

Kaveh meets Al-Haitham in the Akademiya, and it ruins his life from that point forward.

    Summary

“Hm, I seem to have taken both keys when I left the house. Heh, oh well.”

Immediately, a lone doorknob appears in Al-Haitham’s hand.

“I’m surprised he didn’t fly off the handle and send the whole door through,” Cyno blithely comments.

    Summary

“Al-Haitham and I have been sleeping together lately,” says Kaveh, a statement which is quickly followed by the sound of a spoon clattering onto the floor and a very meek gasp from Collei in the corner of the room.

Across from him, Tighnari raises a single eyebrow.

Kaveh’s eyes go wide. “No, I—not like that.

One night, Al-Haitham shows up at Kaveh's bedroom door and sleeps in his bed. They don't talk about it.
