Connie pauses. “I mean, yeah—training to fight the fusion experiments and the Homeworld Gems was a big part of it–I wanted to be able to help defend the Earth. But, it was also about how I felt with a sword in my hand, ya know?”
“And how did you feel?”
Connie doesn’t answer right away. She paces to the edge of the arena–not close enough to present any real danger of teetering over, like Stevonnie had that one time they were too caught up in all the things Steven couldn’t say to see the ground slipping out from beneath them—but close enough to see the clouds glimmering pink around her, to see the Earth, far below in the distance. “Do you know anything about comic books, Pearl?”
