**Weekly updates are on hiatus until August! (as of 6/26/26)** I've reached a point where I don't feel confident posting as I write, so I've decided to take some time to finish the story and make sure all loose ends are tied up. Thank you for reading!

“You’re perfectly capable of plenty, of that I have no doubt,” John replied, sliding the key into the lock. “But the first-footing won’t bode well if I let you go in before me.”
Margaret blinked, not fully understanding her husband’s meaning.
“The first-footing?”
“Aye,” John said, turning the knob and swinging the large, heavy door inwards. “It’s bad luck to let a woman into your home on the new year before anyone else. Didn’t you know that?”
