When Dennis agreed to cover shifts for Dr. Mohan on the night shift, he didn't think he would ever end up here. Kidnapped from the ambulance bay, his head pounding, and having to save the life of a man with limited medical supplies. That was supposed to be it. Somehow, he finds himself snatched up off a sidewalk, in the stables, in front of his home. There were no sacred spaces when you proved your worth.
In the middle of it all, Dennis is confused by the way Dr. Robby and Dr. Abbot are circling him. The way they'd reach out and brush their fingers against his skin. The way they made sure he ate, got rest, and stayed safe. It made him ache with something he hadn't felt in a long time.

He listened to them volley insults back and forth as if there wasn’t an entire department desperately trying to eavesdrop steps outside the door.

Summary
Just minutes after leaving the hospital, Whitaker remembers one last question about house-sitting and calls Robby from the car. A quick phone call from the car seems harmless enough... until his battered-up phone fails to hang up.
By the time Whitaker notices, Robby has already heard the one thing Whitaker never wanted him to: that three months apart won't be nearly enough to get over the feelings he has for him.

"I left my gear in my truck from a job I had this weekend— I can grab it," Whitaker nodded, looking more determined. He took off his stethoscope and nametag, stashing them behind the nurses' station. He was off before Robby could protest, passing Dr. Santos, who looked at him with confusion.
"What are you doing?"
"Saving the bees!" Whitaker hollered behind him, doing a tiny fist bump that made Robby's chest tighten, and he dragged his hand over his face to hide his widening smile.

But he did what he always did. He acknowledged it, repented, got over it, and moved on. At least, that was how it had always worked for Dennis. Until Robby. Because whatever fiery, irrational thing that took hold of him whenever someone flirted with Robby was unlike anything he'd experienced before.
