If you told Steve a year ago that Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson would become a regular at the Harrington household during the summer of ‘86, he would’ve told you that’d be impossible. But that’s just how things go in Hawkins. The impossible never actually seems to manage being impossible. Exhibit A: Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson is now officially one of the gang, and truthfully Steve’s still trying to figure out how he feels about that. And he doesn’t seem to be alone in his ambivalence. Eddie meshes well with almost everyone else in the group, but he still doesn’t seem to know what to make of Steve, which—well, it’s not like Steve’s feelings are hurt, per say, but it certainly doesn’t help the awkward tension he feels whenever they accidentally find themselves alone in a room together.
---Eddie confuses Steve. Steve frustrates Eddie. They're complete opposites, which is why they're finding it so hard to navigate the tentative friendship between them, right? Right. It definitely doesn't have anything to do with the way Steve can't seem to stop staring at Eddie or the way Eddie's foot seems to find its way into his mouth every time he talks to Steve. Nope. That's definitely not the issue.

Summary
It’s clear to Kei now that Yamaguchi is both more used to playing whatever role it is he thinks he has to play as Kei’s companion, and also not nearly as used to it as he maybe should be. There’s a defiance in his slouch that contrasts the practiced evenness of his tone, both of which are juxtaposed by the slight tremor in his hands when he reaches up to push back his hair, all of it amounting to a picture of a person too complicated to properly meet under these circumstances. Kei suddenly desperately wishes they weren’t meeting like this.

When Kei naively agrees to a too-good-to-be-true proposal from his estranged aristocratic grandparents on his late father's side of the family, he finds himself suddenly roped into the morally abhorrent world of the Program. Not that he plans on letting his newfound position as a patron compromise who he is or where he's going, but that's easier said than done. Summary
Kei watches, entranced, as Tadashi relaxes under his fingertips, his muscles all going lax as his breathing deepens. If not for the fact that his eyes are still mostly open and trained on Kei’s face, Kei’d almost think he’d gone to sleep. As it is, the unfocused gaze Tadashi’s leveled at him makes him shift on his knees awkwardly, each slow blink and deep inhale part of a language that Kei can’t even begin to understand. He’s not an alpha, not an omega, just a run of the mill beta unable to read the room, but goddamn it does he want to try.

Tadashi presents a whole decade later than the rest of their peers and, as the only beta in their friend group, Kei suddenly finds himself relegated to playing caregiver to the newly presented alpha. Given how long they've been friends, you'd think stepping in as the pseudo family member replacement wouldn't be so hard for Kei, but the fact that he's been silently pining after Tadashi for most of his life certainly isn't making it easy, and neither is Tadashi, who's hormones have him acting pretty... strange.
