But in the end he knew why he called someone, and her specifically. He needed someone to spill his guts to who wasn't too close to him or too far away, and knew everything that had happened.

Knowing what he knows now he might’ve been concerned then, but when he returned, they ceased for well over a year. His current nightmares are a result of stress, nothing else. So, why should he bother anyone with the fact that he is having trouble sleeping like he is still a small child that needs his mother to tuck him into bed. It’s not a problem, it’s not.
Accounting for everything that’s happening and their uncertain future a few nightmares are the least of his worries.
