It’s a simple, quiet question. Snape’s face is blushing deep, crimson red, so the silence is self-explanatory.
“Why?” Sirius demands to know. He’s not disgusted, Severus notes. Neither he’s pitying him, which is highly appreciated.
The shrug of slim, bony shoulders is barely there.
“You don't want to?” there is a low-key knowledge of Snape’s solitude, yes. Only there were also touches and desperate tears today.
The shrug is repeated, more firmly, as if annoyed.
“You refused everyone?”

Summary
After wandering through the streets of Cokeworth during a visit to Lily in the summer before their seventh year, Sirius Black ends up in Spinner’s End. He unintentionally becomes the witness to Severus Snape’s life outside Hogwarts and is left speechless.
Pulled by curiosity, he follows him and sees the boy fall apart. This new side of Snape makes him reconsider his past life choices and actions. With the desire to become a better version of himself, he makes up his mind to help him.
Maybe, and just maybe, helping Snape will turn out to help him too in the end.
