Vi swung down from her horse in a single, fluid motion, boots striking sand with a kind of grounded certainty that seemed to anchor everything around her.
Caitlyn forgot the heat, forgot the boundary and forgot every careful restraint her newly formed body imposed on her.
She stepped into the river.
The surface froze beneath her bare feet in a spreading bloom of white, the water hardening in delicate, fracturing patterns that webbed outward with each step she took, cracking softly as the current pressed against the ice from below, as if the river itself could not decide whether to resist her or to accept her.
She did not stop.
The river shifted around her, freezing into a fragile suspension of stillness until she stood at its center, held between forest and desert, winter caught in motion.
Vi stared, unable to move.

Years later, Captain Vi “Stone Fist” has her own ship, crew, a port to call home, and a reputation as one of the most feared pirates on the ocean—a reputation that has earned her the ire of Commander Caitlyn Kiramman. Caitlyn seeks to end this so-called Golden Age of Piracy and bring peace to the waters near her home. Caitlyn’s goal is forcibly deferred when her and Vi’s bitter rivalry must give way to a reluctant partnership as the crews of ships throughout the seas are mysteriously vanishing, leaving empty vessels floating eerily in the ocean. The Council of Piltover and the pirate haven of Bilgewater have called a truce to join forces to uncover what is causing the disappearances and put an end to it once and for all. Vi and Caitlyn are ordered by their respective leaders to work together to end this dark plague before it spreads to every corner of the globe. Can the two set aside their differences to save their homes and their people? Or will their rivalry lead to the end of life on Runeterra as they know it?
