    If you ask Illuga how he got himself into this situation, he also doesn’t know.

    He has no recollection of how he came into possession of a haunted dagger, nor does he know why the ghost knight came with it has somehow become his responsibility.

    The knight, introduced himself as Lohen with the grace of another time, isn’t of much help. Despite not even remembering why he was sealed off, Lohen wants Illuga’s help setting him free.

    Illuga could throw away the dagger and return to his peaceful, ghost free life. Yet, the more he learns about the knight from centuries ago, the harder walking away becomes.

    So for three months, this has been Illuga’s life: work, home, argue with an ancient ghost knight, research on the past that modern historians insist are myth, sleep badly, repeat.

    Until they finally find their first real lead…

    After a near-fatal encounter with Rerir, Vice Captain Lohen is forced off the battlefield and into recovery. Stuck behind the frontlines while the war continues without him, he finds himself haunted by a familiar frustration: no matter how hard he trains, it is never enough.

    Illuga knows that feeling all too well.

    Left behind in Piramida while the people he cares about risk their lives against the Wild Hunt, he keeps himself busy with reports, errands, and anything else that stops him from waiting.

    What begins as a chance encounter between an injured knight and a Lightkeeper slowly becomes something neither of them expected.

    Or: Lohen and Illuga discover that loneliness is easier to bear when shared.

The drink in his hand sloshed over his fingers and Varka laughed again as if it was a source of great amusement and not a display of clumsiness from overindulgence. He downed his glass before he slammed it down on the counter. Flins watched with avid eyes as he brought a hand up to his mouth and with a languid tongue, Varka licked the remnants of fire-water from his calloused fingers.

    Yes, Flins thought with a smile of his own, one he hid in the high collar of his cape. One can certainly understand the appeal, Grandmaster.

    or, varka has sharp teeth and too sweet a scent when it's not overpowered by guilt. flins has sharper teeth and a hunger to match.
