Eddie wasn't the person Ollie wanted, but he could pretend. Eddie's hair was the right color and his body felt like it should and he wanted just as badly as Ollie did. It still didn't make him Hal. Nobody could ever replicate the sort of man Hal was, and Ollie'd gotten rid of the original himself.

The thing about Ollie is: he doesn’t compromise. There’s no half measure. When he punches, he punches. When he kisses, it’s all teeth and hands fisted in shirts. Sat on the ground at the tail end of a summer taking its last bow in late August with the taste of his own blood in his mouth and Ollie straddling his legs, Hal thinks he ought to mind it more than he does.
It’s not the first time they’ve kissed, it’s not even the second.

Summary
The flight back from Crosswinds Corner is a strained and quiet one, though Ollie is happier than he can say to see that ostentatious and ugly castle in the middle of the Nevada desert gone. Tom Kalmaku gets dropped off safely at his own home with little fanfare, and they’re just outside Seattle when Ollie directs Hal down to a vaguely run-down little motel on the outskirts of town instead of the once-fanciful Sherwood Florist. If Hal’s surprised at all, he doesn’t show it.
