He can't hear his own voice, but he knows he isn't screaming, as he is trying with all his might to force oxygen into his lungs. Someone is calling his name, he is sure of it, but his ears feel stuffed with cotton, and he can’t think straight through the pounding headache.

His body moves with an aching soreness as he pushes himself up from the wooden... floor? Where he had been lying; perhaps he had fallen out of bed. His gaze drifted to the person who had awakened him, and his mind went completely blank.
