“You have some time off now, right?" Shane asks. "Before you start filming that superhero movie?”
“Yes!” Rose sits up from where she’d been slouching on the sofa, letting the comic book fall to the ground. “Do you not have plans for the summer? We should meet up!”
Shane clears his throat. “I do have plans.” He says slowly. “But I was hoping you could join me?”
“That sounds fantastic, babe.” Rose responds easily. She had hoped to see Shane this summer, but he had very unsubtly hinted that he’d be spending the offseason with Mystery Partner so she hadn’t pushed. This is a very pleasant surprise. “What are the plans?”
“I’m getting married?” Shane says it like it’s a question, even though it very much should not be.
Rose’s jaw drops. “Come again.”
“I’m getting married.” At least he sounds sure of himself this time. “Next Wednesday. And I want you to be there. If you can.”
“Wow” is all Rose can think of to say.

Heat floods Shane’s face and he huffs to hold back a laugh. It’s hard not to find her funny, even when she’s giving him shit. “What’s your idea?”
“We don’t tell anyone.”
“That we broke up?”
“Yeah.”
For a moment, Shane thinks it over, before he says tentatively, “...Why would we do that?”
“Just for a little while. Because if Rozanov is the jealous type, maybe-- well. If he saw us together a little while longer, maybe we turn the heat up in front of the paps… it might butter him up for your talk in Tampa. That’s where you said the All-Stars is this year, right? He’ll be there, you’ll be there…” She wrinkles her nose. “Not that he needs to be buttered up. You’re a total catch, and he’s gotta see that. It just might… motivate him.”
She’s right about one thing; it is a bad idea. Shane stares at her, half in shock and half in… he doesn’t know what.
