Summary
Will is a young gay man committed to Lazarus by his father. Traumatized and alone, he's assigned to Cell 44—right next to Cell 45, where Mike lives. Mike is infamous: violent, isolated, feared by patients and staff alike.
Through late night conversations, Will learns fragments of Mike—his sharp wit, his cruelty, his unexpected tenderness. Mike teaches Will to breathe through panic attacks after his traumatic conversion therapy sessions. But Mike also pushes Will away, warning him to stay distant, insisting nothing good comes from getting close to him. A psychological tension between horror and attraction, exploring whether a monster can be capable of tenderness—and whether Will's inability to fear Mike makes him brave, broken, or both.Bookmarked by queensiel

Summary
“I’ll push the air into your lungs from mine, so that it’s not so hot.”
“H—how do you do that?”
There’s a deep crimson flush moving up Mike’s neck, and Will wonders if being high makes people warm like alcohol does. It’s hard to tell if his own hot skin is from the weight of Mike’s gaze or the weed getting to him.
“You open your mouth.” Mike’s eyes trace slowly down Will’s face, glassy and unfocused, until they fix on his lips. Surely the weed is getting to Will. “And I’ll blow the smoke in while you inhale.”
Will’s tongue goes dry. Yeah, definitely the weed, he’s heard about cotton mouth. If Mike is suggesting this, then it must be a normal thing to do with your friends. He wouldn’t offer to do it if it wasn’t.
-Or
New York is loud and crowded. Will’s mind is tangling up all his creativity until he’s not sure what to do. When his parents go on a “pre-wedding honeymoon”, he jumps at the chance for an isolated summer at the beach. It’s perfect, except Mike crashes the escape in search of his own. Mike is running from his own shit— things he'd rather keep secret. While high, bordering estranged, and sitting under the stars— they agree to a summer of answers and no questions.
