During the events of TR2013 Sam is possessed by Himiko (mostly), but what if at having the ritual interrupted she actually got "infected" instead of possessed with something that had run in her family but had been dormant because it stayed with Himiko: vampirism.
Meanwhile Lara Croft, during her rampages trying to get Sam back, discovers that she is in fact a werewolf, something that was hidden from her by her father (obviously) because he thought that not telling her would keep her safe. But the adrenaline and the protective rage she felt in Yamatai was unprecedented, making the wolf break free.
