He asks, a hint of hesitation in his voice. For the past few days, all he’s been doing is cleaning out his wounds and dressing them. Apart from that, he’s been relying on his divine healing and cultivation to help with the wounds. Wrapping himself in bandages was hard enough; he couldn’t possibly apply salve all over his body alone, and he refused to humiliate himself and ask for help from anyone; he doubts he’ll be able to use it. Regardless, he pockets the vial for later, and waves his hand in a gesture to dismiss Feng Xin from the tent. So it comes as a surprise, when he hears the sound of metallic clinging, and oh–
Feng Xin is kneeling in front of him."

Summary
Mu Qing is dying.
Two years after he almost lost life, limb, and pride at Mount Tonglu, the god of the Southwest is standing face-to-face with his own mortality yet again. But this time, not even the people he cares for can save him from a sick core. He has one year (maybe) and a god's worth of loose ends to tie before the end.
The problem is Feng Xin, who has chosen now, of all the centuries available to him, to finally look back.
Mu Qing has spent eight hundred years making peace with wanting what he couldn't have. He'd gotten very, very good at it. He is considerably less good at it with 12 months left on the clock and Feng Xin's eyes on him like he's something worth keeping.

“Were you counting? I didn’t realize I left such an impression,” Pac mused, surprised that he could muster up any confidence at all. Knowing his weak resolve when it came to those lovely brown eyes, it wouldn’t last long.
“Maybe, maybe,” Fit said. “You’re a hard guy to forget.”
