Summary
The smell of mint and disinfectant hit Hyunjin the moment he stepped into the small dental clinic. It was tucked between a flower shop and a stationery store in the quiet downtown strip of his new hometown: barely a few blocks long and always sleepy by six. He clutched the clipboard the receptionist had handed him a few minutes ago, his fingers fidgeting with the edge of the form as he sat stiffly in a faux-leather waiting chair. The overhead light buzzed softly, and the only other sound in the room was the faint chime of a wind spinner turning lazily by the open window.
He hadn’t wanted to come. But his mom had insisted, “New town, new school, new teeth,” she’d said, as if dental cleanings were somehow a rite of passage. She didn’t care that he hadn’t been to the dentist in two years, or that he’d rather be anywhere else than here, in this tiny office with faded posters of smiling molars and tooth fairies on the wall.
“Hyunjin?” a soft voice called from the hallway.
He looked up, and that’s when he saw him.

“I have a what?” Mason exclaims, eyes widening dramatically as he leans forward on the couch.
Will, ever patient, lays a hand on one of the legs he’s currently kneeling between, settled on the living room rug. “A sister,” he repeats. His voice is a stark contrast to Mason’s, all gentle and calm.
“Yeah, I got that part,” Mason says, dangerously toeing the line into condescension. “What does that mean? Did you go out and adopt a kid while I was at school?”

Mason’s biological sister, newly entered into the foster system, comes to live with Mike and Will. Considering Mason’s jealous history with little girls, his transition into brotherhood is not bound to be pretty.
