The next time he awakens is even more chaotic. Two doctors are shouting at each other in the corner, and John is holding his hand so tightly Sherlock is worried he’ll break it.
“—fever’s been like this for two days! He hasn’t remained conscious for more than two minutes at a time so far!” shouts one of the doctors.
“I don’t care! We can’t do what you’re suggesting, it’ll just make it worse. Besides, according to his file, he’s already taken every drug under the sun, who knows what that man is resistant to—.”
Sherlock flinches, feeling like all of his progress is being thrown in his face again. John’s head jerks up.

Summary
Nothing would get Sherlock to take a case outside London. At least that’s what John thought, until a string of clergy are found murdered in their churches across the state of Illinois. Now he and Sherlock are undercover at a Bible conference in America, trying to track down a serial killer. It’s business as usual, except John wasn’t expecting this case to open old wounds.
John struggles with the ghosts of his Catholic upbringing while wrestling with new feelings for Sherlock. And none of it is made any easier by the tiny dorm room they now share, or the way Sherlock keeps looking at him.

“Sherlock?”
“Hmmm?” he tore his eyes from his laptop screen to look up at his friend. Seeing him standing there holding a bottle of wine, he shook his head. “No, thank you, I’m good.”
John laughed. “Well, I already poured you some, but no. I was going to ask, why don’t you ever correct anyone when they assume you and I are together?”
“We are together,” he replied simply, still typing away at his laptop.
John stiffened a bit at that. “What?”
“You and me. We’re together a lot, John. Why would I correct someone who points out a fact?”
John rolled his eyes as he headed back toward the kitchen. “That’s not what I meant,” he called as he put the wine back on the counter.
When he turned around, Sherlock was standing in the doorway between the two rooms.
“What did you mean?”

Summary
What if everything that Sherlock had wanted to, but never could say to John, was put on striking display on what was to be a pleasant afternoon of ice cream and ducks? What happens when John has to finally face everything he told himself he never wanted to know?
John comes by with Rosie for their weekly hang with Sherlock. But when the man in question fails to greet them, John goes off to find Sherlock in his room, shirtless and hunched over in pain. He's stopped in his tracks by the angry lines and marks marring what he once knew to be flawless skin. And suddenly John can't run from Sherlock's truths any longer.
AKA - Sherlock's in a bad way, and John finally decides to stay.
