Summary
Susie knows how to make up for who she is, oversized and fumbling, with jaundice eyes and wicked jagged teeth. She dresses in soft cardigans and ties up her hair with a ribbon and tries so hard to be good. If the Prophecy's cast her as one of its foretold heroes, then that's what she'll be.

Summary
It didn't have to be you who helped her, or fed her, or stayed with her. In fact it probably shouldn't have been, given your promise, and the gaping absence that faithfully awaited you at the story's end – frankly, your mom's household finances couldn't tolerate more than a few days' worth of extra meals. You were just lucky – or, that's the wrong word; really, you were convenient, courtesy of your part in the play, and the sad little vestigial heart inside you that soaked in her kindness like it was the sun. Anyone might've; could've; should've.
But, just for a little while, you had something that was just yours.
