Summary
Dan's just trying to get through his endless coffee shop shifts without thinking about the parts of himself he has been taught to hate. Then there's Phil, a sleep-deprived regular with a sci-fi book draft and a looming deadline. As the line blurs between customer and friend and something more, Dan has to face the question he's spent years ignoring. He needs to pick whether to stay in denial or risk everything on the possibility that the relationship him and Phil have might be more than platonic.

Dan passes away, suddenly and much too young. Phil lives through the fallout.
No priest speaks before or after they lower him into the ground. Dan would've hated such a thing and organising it wasn't on anyone's mind. Instead, they've elected to have the same man who organised the speeching at the memorial services say a few words.
He speaks for a minute or two. It's uninspired and plain, but Phil barely hears it anyway. He's looking at the grave. It looks deeper than 6 feet, he thinks. He wants to share in this curiosity with someone and habitually glances to his right.
No-one there.
