“What the fuck are you doing in upstate New York, Alex?” he retorts. The words are loaded, that much Alex can tell immediately—and she has no particular desire to unpack them, to explain to him why she couldn’t survive another day in the city and the blinding lights of the Morning Show, why she’s chosen obscurity when all she ever wanted was relevance.
