Summary
When Herbert rounded the corner to the medical bay, the first (and only) thing that he noticed was Dan, standing in the furthest corner and huddled closely beside Francesca. They stood over the bed of a young girl whose head had been bandaged. Dan smiled at the child, then turned his head to speak into Francesca’s ear and the smile lost all of its innocence.
Shameless.
Herbert curled both hands into clenched fists.
Dan wanted a miracle, Herbert would give him one.
The young man that lost his leg laid to the side seemingly fast asleep from the way his head was tucked into his arm. That or dead. Either one would work for Herbert, if he wanted to pry Dan’s attention away from that woman, if only for the time it would take to prove their work a worthwhile venture for Dan. -

It felt good to be tended to, despite the clinical precision of Herbert’s contact. Dan couldn’t even feel the warmth of his hands underneath the cold, rubbery gloves and he so badly wished Herbert could take them off. Maybe one day, when Dan is finally falling apart at the seams and Herbert is too old to give a shit he’ll take them off when he freshens Dan up.

“Morning.”
Dan dips his head into the crook of Herbert’s shoulder. He’s wearing a thin, loose cotton shirt that has faded with time. The remaining bits of ink that cling to its fibers reveal the words “Universitat Zurich” and a round emblem in the middle. It’s the only shirt Dan has ever seen him wear that wasn’t buttoned up to his neck and a potential victim of bloodstains that would render it useless.“Hello.”
He doesn’t say ‘good morning’ or ‘hey baby’ or call Dan anything affectionate. He doesn’t whisper sweet nothings to Dan in the morning, or kiss him softly. Not that he should have to do anything like that, or that Dan would even expect it from him in the first place.

Fed up with Herbert's chafing attitude in the aftermath of a scientific setback, Dan moves out and temporarily severs ties with his lover. Absence makes the heart grow fonder—or just drives them both to extreme ends to cope with the split and get each other's attention.

Summary
Five years after the Miskatonic Massacre, Daniel Cain is confident that he'll never see the likes of Herbert West or his reagent again. That suits him just fine. He hates the guy for what he did. One day, he receives a patient fresh off a suicide attempt whose bloodwork reminds Dan of days filled with glowing vials and corpse violence. Astonished, Dan unwillingly finds Herbert a part of his life again.
As Herbert recuperates, something ominous lurks over Arkham: a strange monster, killing at random and making off with body parts. Herbert and Dan are reminded of just how well they suit one another as they both work to stop the creature ... before there's nobody left for organ donation.

There are some great quick-and-dirty guides to HTML on A03. This is not one of them - it is a comprehensive guide
It's now 2025, a decade later. A03 supports some new HTML and and we're all walking around reading fic on supercomputers that fit in a jean pocket. It was time to update.
The previous three chapters have been divided into smaller concepts. Each tag continues to have - at a minimum - a link to the w3schools page about it (so you can learn more), a code example, and the result of the code example. Most tags have their attributes, things like [src] or [title], listed and examples of how using the attributes modify the tags.
There's a chapter on Bad Ideas, including how some of the archive's default CSS is available to you to format your work (users can't turn that off by hiding a workskin!)
Oh. And I added a bunny army. You could learn how to add one too.
