Felix meets his eye, blue and calculating. “What else do you call a man who happily burns innocent people alive?”
The judge frowns. “You think I do so happily?” He brushes the golden bangs away from his face. “It is my duty to do so, Felix, and while I do it with a heavy heart, it must be done. The Goddess condemns witchcraft, and in her name, so must I condemn witches.”
There is no reasoning with him, and Felix wonders what the point of this meeting was when they both already knew the way it would end. “Then what more is there to discuss?” he sighs, sinking back against the back of the chaise. “You’ve already made up your mind, and I can do no more than I’ve already done. I’m not a witch.”
“I did not ask you here to discuss your guilt, per se,” he admits. “That is already decided. I asked you here to offer you salvation.”
