Summary
Shane meets Connor Storrie, and Ilya spirals hard about it, via the 5 stages of grief.
OR: inspired by these tweets (1, 2) from @saltedsan: what about a fic where Shane or Ilya spirals so hard that they fear the other one will want divorce because sometimes insecurity lands too much and stress and anxiety and depression-

Summary
Shane wondered if this was how most relationships ended. Silently.
It was as if his time with Ilya had never happened at all, like a wave washing away footprints in the sand. The absence of evidence was comforting at times, but more often it left him infuriated. Shane felt as though he was being deceived. Manipulated. No pictures, nothing of Ilya’s to return. He didn’t even have Ilya’s contact in his phone. Not really, at least. Not as Ilya.
Shane wasn’t dumb enough to expect a text, and he certainly wasn’t self-destructive enough to send one himself. But he was foolish enough to wonder if maybe, just maybe, Ilya had reached out in some way.
OR
Shane doesn't actually get hurt in the game against Boston and Ilya breaks up with him because Ilya's heart had entered into it, and that changed everything.

Summary
Shane doesn't eat much—he attributes it to watching his carb intake and needing to stay light and speedy, and for no other reason at all.
And definitely not because of the flowers that keep him full these days.

Summary
“Don’t go,” Ilya manages to choke out, burying his face under Shane’s chin and squeezing his eyes shut. He inhales sharply, pressing his nose deeper into Shane’s throat to breathe in his scent. Right now, it’s Ilya’s body soap, vanilla and spice, masked under salt and skin. He inhales it like it's his own personal supply of air, what he needs to extinguish the burning in his lungs.
“Ilya,” Shane says, voice urgent, “you’re shaking, I—your breathing’s too fast—” He tries to pull back, needs to see Ilya’s face, needs to see what’s wrong, but Ilya just shakes his head and clings tighter.
“Please don’t go, Shane,” Ilya whispers, pleading. I’m sorry, please don’t go, don’t go—
OR: ilya and shane accidentally recreate the tuna-melt day, and ilya realizes just how much old wounds hurt.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov never goes to the cottage. Instead, he breaks up with Shane for the greater good.
Two years later, Shane finds out that Ilya Rozanov is retiring and marrying Svetlana Vetrova.
And Shane, against all logic, cannot allow it to happen.
