    Summary

In Yi Ti, the Mandate of Heaven is not a metaphor. It is Heaven’s sanction to rule — and history remembers what happens when that sanction rests on a woman’s head.

The last Empress, the Amethyst Empress, was legitimate, Heaven-favoured, and crowned — and still her brother rose against her. Her reign did not fail for lack of right, but because right has never been enough to still ambition.

Since then, every woman who stood too close to the throne has been measured against that bloodstained precedent.

So when Princess Ruyan is born marked — a spirit-walker of the imperial line — the court does not see a blessing.

    It sees a repetition.

Even if she refused the crown, others would raise it for her. Even if she stood aside, men would marry her into claims and call it Heaven’s will.

The Emperor cannot crown her without inviting the same war that ended the Amethyst Empress. He cannot keep her close without letting history gather its knives again.
Hence he sent his daughter away for stability for his kingdom but also for her to fulfill his plans for his empire.

    Bookmarker's Notes

I am not normally a fan of Jon/Sansa fics. But this was an excellent story. Sansa's insight of each person around her was succinct, and the author has a gift for not lingering too long on each step that advances different plots within the story. Sansa's machinations are realistic. Even impatient readers will stay engaged as the threads of each plot weave together.

He had never truly believed in gods or in hells. Had never really given much thought to what happened after you died.

He certainly had not expected to reborn into a new life. Into a Westeros that barely resembled the one he’d left behind when he’d met his nephew over the Gods Eye.
