“How are you doing?” Peter’s questions snaps him out of his thoughts, making him blinks owlishly and finally pulls his eyes away from the lake to catch his friend’s worried frown.
“Fine.” He mumbles, echoing Peter’s own answer. “I’m fine, I’m just — thinking.”
Peter stays quiet next to him and Harley doesn’t dare to turn and meet his gaze, knowing Peter will read through him easily. Harley can’t afford that. Harley isn’t the only one hurting. Hell, his pain is but a speck compared to the one the people he considers family is carrying themselves.
Peter had literally seen the closest thing he’d had as a father die before him for the second time. Pepper had watched her husband sacrifice himself, his life, and future, for the world and his family. Morgan — small, precious Morgan. God, she’s just a baby — has lost a dad, someone who had loved her to pieces.
Harley doesn’t dare to forget his place now, not again.
(Or the one where it's Tony's funeral and Harley hasn't processed his emotions regarding the entire ordeal just yet and it hits him harder than he expected and sends him spiraling. Good thing that, even if Tony's gone, he still has people around him that love him just as fiercely.)
