“Why do you-” he huffs, pushing Sydney off him and hiding his face in one of their pillows. “Honestly, you- you wake me up in the middle of the night, seduce me while I’m half asleep, and then you have the nerve to make fun of me!”
In all fairness, Sydney’s never claimed to be a very nice person.
Still, he wraps himself around Jedidiah’s back and presses a kiss to his neck in apology.
“Noo,” he defends himself. “I wasn’t trying to wake you.”

Summary
Grant doesn’t like Sunday morning church - not like he likes Wednesday nights - but usually, it’s bearable. His youth leader is nice enough and will give him peppermint gum to chew on because she knows he’s fidgety in longer sessions. She also gives them all journals to take notes in during the sermon - or, that's what she claims. He’s pretty sure it’s just so they don’t talk, though, because he’s never seen anyone actually take notes. Grant doesn’t mind, because chewing in fours and scribbling mindlessly provides him with enough of a distraction from the voices in his head.
Sometimes it’s small. It tells him to steal from the offering when it comes around, forms a pit in his gut as soon as the thought appears.
One, two, three, four. He drops in a dollar and passes it to his right.
There’s something unsettling about the cold brush of metal on his fingers. He feels like it’s left something behind on his hands, dirt or grime or sin that doesn’t come off even when Grant brushes his open palms against the rough denim of his jeans.
(OR: Grant goes to church camp and gets his shit rocked by ocd and cute boys)

Summary
“Do you, like, need… anything?” He’d stumbled over the end of his sentence as his brain tried to supply the word help in its place.
He could feel his face going red. Sydney had to have been aware of the slip-up.
Either way, he’d spent the rest of the time Sydney was in the shower scrubbing down the floors until they were spotless, even by Lucille’s standards. It was much easier than thinking about Sydney’s hair, or the little relaxed sigh he would make under the stream of warm water, or the fact that the thoughts made Jedididah’s stomach churn with guilt, even if they posed as innocent. That might’ve been worse than just straight-up thinking of him naked. At least then he could play it off as the devil talking. Instead, his heart squeezed in his chest, a bubbling, bursting tenderness that he thought might actually suffocate him if he couldn’t get it out.

“She's trans?” Grant whispers.
Grant’s not sure why it feels like a secret, because his dad just nods. His eyes get ever-so-slightly wider like he’s seeing something over Grant’s shoulder, but he shakes it off after a second.
“Yeah, she ah, she told us when she was about your age." Grant doesn’t know why that feels so important.

The look he gets in response is decidedly unconvinced.

Summary
au where the rogue card chooses sparrow, instead
in which sparrow blames henry for lark’s 'death' in oakvale, henry tries to make peace with his kids and the eldritch god living inside of them, and lark is forced to play the mediator between his father his now-unfamiliar other half.
this is a mostly oak/sparrow-centric au but there will still be dashes of the other dads & kiddads throughout :)

!!!!! amazing lark and sparrow fic. Perfect to (re)read when you want to feel SAD‼️ big time about the oak garcias and the rogue card curse specifically.
I am personally always thinking of the rogue card and how much of an impact it has on lark.. big fan of the characterization of them both here (and henry of course) and it always gets my own thoughts racing about them .. I love when something makes me think about the characters SO much it inspires me to work on my own things (or at least think about them while I recover from my sobbing :') lol )

Summary
Grant swallows and turns his eyes back to his rosary. He doesn’t want to look at Sparrow. Her big green eyes and soft hair. Just makes him think about what she would look like dead.
Sparrow slips her finger into the rosary and lifts part of the string. It’s blue and green; Grant’s favorite colors when he was a kid and made it. Sparrow’s nails are painted alternating black and yellow. Black for his brother and yellow for herself. Like sunshine, bright and beautiful and burning.
Grant kinda wonders what color she would paint her nails if she was painting them for him.
