He's never said what he actually thinks: that the worst part isn't the therapy itself—it's the glimpse. The little breaks where you see what it might feel like to be unburdened, to not carry all of it, and then you have to put the weight back on and walk out into your regular life. It's like taking off too-tight boots, when your feet swell, and then jamming them back into the boots, making them hurt worse than before. His brain doesn't like the little breaks. It feels unfair to know it's going to hurt to go back.
Robby goes on his sabbatical. It's a long time to be alone with his thoughts.
