“Aw,” Harry says, smiling. “That’s adorable. Is it like—is it a thing? Do all of you keep pictures in your helmets?”
A murmur of general consensus ripples through their group. Harry, apparently delighted by this new knowledge, demands to see everyone’s secret photos.
“They’re kind of private,” Eddie says, crouched down to unlace his boots. He has a smudge of soot over his left cheek, and his hair has come loose from the gel, a lock of it curling over his brow. Buck likes him like this, just a little dishevelled.
or, firefighters sometimes keep photographs of the people they love inside their helmets, to remember who they’re fighting to come home to. eddie’s isn’t what buck expects.

“Imagine what the papers will say,” Eddie says, taking on that same teasing, floating tone of voice, “The Buckley rake finally chooses a partner.”
“Mmm, but we did it all out of order, imagine the scandal if society finds out.”
“Guess you need to court me properly, then.” The lights in the room twinkle in Eddie’s dark eyes. “Make me an offer I can’t refuse. You’ve already ruined me for everyone else, it’s the gentlemanly thing to do.”

Summary
The song is already a minute in and Buck is starting to feel like he’s missed his shot. Oh, well. Next one. Maybe. How much does he actually need to know how to dip — or dance at all, really?
He turns around, and for the third time tonight, he finds Eddie, standing right there. “Oh, hey,” Buck says. “Listen, I’m tired, I think I’m going to call it.”
Eddie nods. He has a small smile on his flushed face. His hair has escaped its gel hold, strands wisping down onto his forehead. Buck feels his hand start to float up, to brush those strands away, and very smoothly diverts to his own hairline, smoothing his curls like that’s what he meant to do all along.
“You’ve got a ride, right?” Buck says, shifting from foot to foot.
Eddie leans in — to be heard over the music? But he keeps moving toward Buck, bringing his arms up so that one hand is on Buck’s shoulder, and the other is suddenly clasping Buck’s hand. They are close.
