Summary
Zoro enjoys the feeling of sun on his back and wind blowing through his hair, relishing in the serenity that always surrounds him following a night like last. The ship has been sailing away from their latest supply stop for no more than 10 minutes when Luffy cuts through that peace.
“Oi Zoro!!” Luffy exclaims, tilting his head in that patented way of his “Did ya know you’re missing an earring?”
Well Shit, Zoro thinks, the opposite of calm as he watches all his nakama turn to look at the offending ear. Sure enough he notices a distinct decrease in the amount of jingling present in his left ear. Zoro’s eyes meet Sanji’s trying to gauge the love cook’s reaction to the situation at hand. It’s the damn cook's fault after all, roughing him up in the bed like he did last night, not that he would really have it any other way though.
Or
Zoro and Sanji have been hooking up in secret for the last couple months however after a particularly exciting night it's not exactly a secret anymore

Shane cracks one eye open. “Hmm?”

im highkey very passionate about this, since im filipino with immigrant parents living in the us who is losing her culture, all while the government establishes white people above all others, and while being lesbian herself

honestly i have it better than him in a way
im not in a white dominated sport, i was not outed, i am not mixed, i grew up mostly in my culture, i am not someone people look up to
but still
the part at the end talking about how everything left of the thylacine is "a history reduced to grainy footage" made me think
if extinction is a metaphor for loss of culture
then how does this play out?

"grainy footage" and its your parents who left their homes and brough only a part of it with them, not complete
history you learn from grainy footage is limited, the video not clear enough to see every miniscule detail
culture you learn from your immigrant parents is limited, their words not clear enough to understand every miniscule detail
some things in history youll never learn unless you were truly there, in that time
some things in culture youll never learn unless you are truly there, in that other place where that culture is the norm
and shane being jealous of ilya because he had a culture to think about and long for
one could argue shane knows canadian culture but that is not all he is
ilya knows everything about him, shane does not
and the comparison between shane and seo-joon
shane was never rlly bullied because in their eyes he was white enough, with his white name, white food, english language but seo-joon was too obviously asian to them
shane kinda just blended in
and honestly ive lwky lived both of these sides
my name, being filipino, is not the stereotypical asian names youd hear
my first name is white, my last name is technically also white, given to the philippines by the spaniards
and i dont look too asian
so there i was at my sixth grade science table being ignored by the rest of the people cuz i just blended in yknow
never rlly had a reason to bother me cuz ig they just believed i was another girl from spain ig, but then they find out im filipino, so asian, and look at each other like they won the lottery
it was so racist but back then i was still eleven
too timid to say anything, and honestly i probably still am
kinda like shane realizing nothing really changed in this fic
and this fic talking about how the fading of language and culture is, in a way, survival
because it is, so ig stripping away that culture and just becoming an all american girl would be better for survival
its an illusion of sorts

shane mentions the asian blood running through him and his mothers veins like a toxin to suck out which ilya did not do, as seen here
and him thinking about what he would be like if everything hockey related was unraveled from him
and hed never know the cure because his grandmother already died when he was nine and they didnt even share a language so how could he have gotten the cure to his japanese identity
his mother also used hockey, a majority white sport, to feel canadian so whats not to say that she also dropped that culture and in time never rlly gave any of it to shane

sometimes i feel stuck in a limbo around being asian
a lot of white supremacy revolves around skin color, as in whether youre darker or lighter physically
but im not really as dark as my family
so sometimes ig i dont feel asian enough
and a lot of struggles revolve around others in other races but not rlly asians
its like the stereotype of asians being quiet is true in every way possible
even like this we're so quiet we just fade into the background of all the societal struggles
