Summary
There was a peculiar box that looked like it’d fallen through some of the holes internal to the shuttle. Excluding the blood it was a cold, white, color, about three feet wide and three tall. Behind Gideon, Harrow had continued talking, as had Aiglamene, who had just arrived. Gideon was not listening at all, because there was some kind of noise coming from inside the box.
Gideon tuned out the others entirely, something she was well practiced at, and stepped fully inside the shuttle, head tilted to try to listen a little better. And yeah, there was definitely something in the box making noise. A rhythmic pounding sound, like someone hitting a wall.
“Harrow?” She asked, cutting off both Harrow and Aiglamene as they asked her what, pray tell, the fuck was she doing. “You sure there’s nothing alive in here?”
(Shortly before Gideon and Harrow leave for the First, a Company shuttle crashes into the Ninth. Murderbot, about 1,000 hours into life without a governor module, is the only survivor.)

Overworked junior lawyer Harrow gets told by her therapist to do one (1) recreational activity to start rebalancing her life. She duly signs up for a pottery class taught by Cytherea, an artist almost twice her age. At first Harrow resents Cytherea's airy, self-amused demeanor, then she becomes obsessively invested in her approval. Her wheelthrowing doesn't really improve though. Eventually Harrow realizes that she's having a long-overdue gay awakening, which was already transparent to Cytherea, and they make out on top of the kiln.

Usually, two of the stars form a close binary system, and the third orbits this pair at a distance much larger than that of the binary orbit. This arrangement is called hierarchical. (Wikipedia, I admit.)
Harrow's office is still down the same gray hallway. Ianthe doesn't think the furniture has even been rearranged in the past few decades. The keypad blinks red, but the door was left just barely open: an engraved invitation. Ianthe taps her access code in anyway, enjoying the faint sensation of Harrow's ward tasting the thalergy from her fingertips.

This is a far-future canon-divergent AU in which Harrow never stops being a diet Lyctor, never remembers Gideon, and is entangled by the centuries with Ianthe. *jacking-off motion* Sorry, Gideon lovers, see you next time!

Ianthe and Corona live together too, in a lavish pre-war 3-bedroom that has been rent-controlled in their family for generations. Ianthe and Harrow are in the same grad sciences program, and Gideon is front-desk staff at the boutique gym Corona frequents. YES Gideon moved to New York so that Harrow could get her bioengineering PhD there and YES they had zero further discussion of what Harrow owes her or what plans Harrow will include her in after graduation 🥰
This story is about their lightning-bolt present and long slow future. Please be clear there are major Gideon/Harrow feelings, but they do not get intimate except in a way that fully exists to work out the author's fucked-up obsessive queerplatonic (?) early 20s. Enjoy but don't make eye contact with me!!

She wanted this planet to crumble to fucking dust, and she wanted to feel the light of the sun that she’d only ever really read about. She wanted to be warm and she wanted to love someone who was alive and she wanted out, and for a moment, with red swimming at the corner of her eyes, she decided Harrowhark Nonagesimus was all that was getting in the way of that.
