Summary
Charles opens the door in his work out shorts and giant hoodie, half of his hair smooshed to the side of his head while the other sticks straight up. He's frantically trying to smooth it with one hand as he swings the door wide with the other, but gets distracted by Max standing there, red-cheeked and trying to pretend he isn’t panting.
The cloud of rainpancakesearthsyrup floods into his apartment, making Charles blink dazedly. It’s so fucking good. He can’t help but gasp a bit, surprised.
Max takes a final deep, almost heaving breath and shoots his arm out straight in front of him, a dark blue hoodie clenched in his fist. “Here.”
Charles doesn’t reach for it. He eyes Max, the sheen of sweat along his hairline, the fit of his relatively but not egregiously skinny jeans.
“Did you—did you run here?”
Max grimaces a little, then shrugs. “Brought this for you.”

Charles has spent the last 28 years highly sensitive to smell, usually to the detriment of his own well-being. So what if Max’s presence—and scent—have always helped with that?
So what if this is the year Max finally notices?

Charles has managed the paddock all weekend on suppressants and careful mouth-breathing, navigating the amplified pheromones through sheer Monegasque stubbornness. Then Max Verstappen walks past during the driver's parade, and managing stops being an option.
Scent-drunk in front of twenty thousand fans and every camera in Formula 1, Charles has two choices: fall apart publicly or accept Max's blunt, completely unsolicited offer to help. Biology has never once cared about professionalism. And Max smells impossibly, infuriatingly right.

Summary
This isn’t like Austria 2019, when Charles couldn’t even look at Max after he’d been pushed off the track in the last lap. Max is all smiles, not a single care in the world that both of their floors are definitely damaged beyond belief due to running each other off the track.
Three times each, no penalties deployed.
Charles manages to spray Max in the face, who’s eyes close as his entire body jerks, curling slightly in on himself. This raises his arms and Charles gets another eyeful of champagne. He yelps, and some of the sparking wine drips down into his mouth.
Max and Charles both open their eyes at the same time, and dissolve into laughter.

Summary
His birthday comes and goes. He sees his family, hangs out with friends, Sapnap comes over and they spend the entire weekend gorging on food and playing games together like they’re nineteen again. There’s a barrage of fanart and excited messages flooding his mentions, and while it’s a lot less than at the height of his career, it’s still enough to make his phone practically useless from how the notifs keep popping up.
George shoots Dream a text wishing him a happy birthday in the early morning. It stings like it does every year and that stubborn part of him, the one that’s been growing stronger, harder to ignore now that he’s been letting it get a voice inside Dr. Luz’s office, demands him to fix this.
There are a lot of things Dream wishes he had done differently, but the way he let George slip through his fingers is perhaps the one that haunts him the most.

George was born without a second gender, apparently.
Not that it matters much to him, it's not like he's missing out on a whole lot.
Sure, he'd like to be able to smell Dream's scent; to know him on that one deeper level that he simply can't access, but it's fine! He's just George and it's fine!
He can still pine after Dream wistfully without a second gender. He can still be hopelessly and helplessly in love. It's not like Dream's ever not been there for George when he needs him.
However, does that still apply when George gets sick in the most unexpected way possible?
Or; George is a late bloomer and that makes already messy feelings between him and Dream even more difficult to navigate.
