    The room he is going to die in is cold, hollow, and metal, not too small, almost the size of his entire apartment on Preservation but totally empty. The world outside is freezing; inside, merely cold, but enough to make the augments feel metal beneath his skin, drawn tighter over the foreign parts, almost painful, like his blood is not sufficient to keep them warm anymore.

    The good news, dying will probably not take too long. The bad news is everything else, really.

    Gurathin finds himself the target of some very slow, cold vengeance.

    “ Maybe I would be less annoyed had it not been brought up a subjective one million times (and an objective two dozen) how it was “nice to have everyone back together” on a “peaceful survey this time”. Ratthi had made sure to comment that for all that the first survey had been a “total nightmare” it was “worth it to have met you SecUnit!” That had given me the same melty feeling in my chest that I’d gotten when Mensah had told me she saw me “as a person just trying to help” back on that first survey together.

    I was trying not to think about that though. Not that, or the way my drones captured Ratthi’s grin when he’d spoken. Or any of the melty and soft feelings my humans gave me sometimes. But especially not Ratthi. Because if I thought about him at all, I’d have to think about his blood on my face.”

    Set in a mix of the Book Universe & the TV Universe, Murderbot and the PresAux crew are on another planetary survey mission. Everything is peaceful until it isn’t and Murderbot gets trapped in a nightmarish Time Loop like something out of one of its serials. Murderbot is hellbent on saving its humans and breaking free of the loop whatever it takes.

    Immediate sequel to "Abort, Retry, Fail?"

    After crossing his employer and suffering the consequences, Gurathin is toeing the line, but, the Rim is a horrible place and the only luck he has ever found has been bad.

    Palisade, the parent company of GrayCris has been unimpressed with the Company's inability bury one little free-hold and has taken matters into their own hands. So, whether as a final test of loyalty, an attempt to undermine a competitor, or a miscalculation, Gurathin's second job after months of confinement is on TranRollinHyfa, on loan to manipulate or rip any damning evidence or usable blackmail from Planetary President Mensah.

    For some reason, Preservation Alliance just will not go back where they belong and leave him alone. Just as mystifying is his inability to walk away and let them burn.

    After stumbling, somewhere in the depths of the galaxy, across a threat against Dr. Mensah, Murderbot visits the world the trail leads it to, to uncover more through the subtle art of undercover investigation, prevent evil plans from being carried out, and maybe murder a few people in the process. It did not expect to find Gurathin there, doing the exact same thing, except (maybe, kind of, possibly) better. This development is either the best or the worst thing to happen during this mission that keeps putting Murderbot into an increasing number of uncomfortable situations it absolutely is not cut out for.

    (Aka, the things both Muderbot and Gurathin are willing to do for Mensah and Preservation... out of which working with each other is, somehow, not the worst.)
