Kaoru sighs faintly. "It started hurting a day or two ago. I assumed it was some bug I caught from your horrendous cooking, considering it started as nausea. But it never stopped, and I-" Kaoru's thoughts trail off at the sight of Kojiro's face: with eyebrows knit close together, his big eyes scanning every inch of his face, and… Kaoru wishes he could look away again. He can't.
"Why didn't you…"
"Because I convinced myself it wasn't happening, Kojiro," he interrupts, “Sakurayashiki’s do not have time to get sick. Unlike you, I can’t just put a pause on everything the minute my body betrays me." Kaoru jokes hesitantly, "Maybe next time I'll have Carla add it to my schedule but…"
"Jesus Christ, Kaoru! You should have told me. This is something you tell your partner. You don't get to decide to handle this on your own."

Although Kaoru has always had certain judgmental tendencies, Kojiro was sure he never meant harm by it. Still, he couldn't help doubt and fantasize about what Kaoru actually thought of him. There's no doubt he's blowing the situation out of proportion. He must be. But it was too late. His skin felt translucent. What if he wasn't good enough for Kaoru? He wasn’t his first choice. He's never been his first choice. That's something that Kojiro hasn't been able to let go of. Inadequate. Mediocre."

Set somewhere between ep5s1 and ep6s1,
Will wakes up off the side of the highway in his wrecked car. He hits a breaking point when he realizes he was sleep-drving. But his car isn't so wrecked that it can't make it to Hannibal's house. Because if anyone in the world is safe enough to calm his nightmarish brain, it's Hannibal, even in the middle of the night.
