Summary
Initially, Bruce had spent the next three days in bed, haunted by the young boy he saw and the young boy he had been. In those days in the dark, a thought had occurred to Bruce. Perhaps the best way to heal himself was to help heal those around him. He signed up for foster care and started training, and by some miracle, his first foster child had been the very same young boy from the circus. Richard Grayson- or as his parents had called him, Dick. Or sometimes Robin.
Which led to the furniture store.

Summary
This feeling stabbed her often- just below the centre of her ribs. When she'd been with Cain, it hadn't stabbed her so often. Now it did. It was one of the few things that made Cassandra want to go back to her father- just to relieve that feeling that the others called anxiety. It made her feel stupid. It made her feel scared. It made her want to hit her head against the wall, just to get the feeling out. The pressure would build and build inside her otherwise, and that, that was a terrible feeling that sometimes made her lie on the floor and hit things in silence.
The others called it a meltdown when that happened- or sensory overload or emotional overload or other words she chose to ignore, simply because she wanted to.

Summary
The rusty smell of blood was one thing to wake up to. A throbbing pain in her head was another. Her body resting on cold tiles was a third indicator that something had gone seriously, seriously wrong. There was an ache in her shoulders, her arms pulled behind her. When she tried to open her eyes, she found she couldn't. They felt sticky and a little crusty in places.
Something had definitely gone wrong if Cassandra Cain had ended up handcuffed in God knows where.

Summary
Cassandra Cain did not often do things that were considered normal for her age.
There were many different reasons for this. For one, she had never lived a life that could be considered normal. This was entirely her dad's fault. Secondly, she rarely ever spoke. If she did, it was quiet and hoarse and whispery. She had communication cards, which she used.. sometimes. The options were limited and sometimes the words didn't make sense. But what helped absolutely none of this was the fact that her nervous system, for whatever reason, didn't work properly.

The second he'd been told she was found, he wasn't sure he'd even driven more recklessly. He'd gone pedal to the metal, probably running several red lights, until he got there. Dick ran through the halls, nausea bubbling and threatening to burst through him. He threw the door open, breathing heavily. The Batcave medbay was quiet, secluded. There, in the bed, was Elowyn, her dark hair spilling over the pillow. Alfred stood, dressing an injury on her head. Jason sat by the bed, holding her hand, even though her eyes were closed. Was she awake?
God, he hoped she wasn't.

Her tiny body wanted to weep, cry, wail for her Bruce as he gently pulled her into his arms. Hot tears cooled on her cheeks. She wanted to tell him everything, how much she missed him even though she'd never met him before, even though he had no idea who she was.
"Mb-bh—" she tried, as Batman settled her against his chest, wrapping her in the cape. Her lips felt unwieldy, thick and numb. "Bhu— brr—"
But she'd practiced. She'd practiced his name so many times, every night since she fled the man who'd created her, since she saw the life she once had will have flash through her mind as though remembering a long, long dream. But it wasn't a dream. It was her past, and also her future.
She refused to wait for it.
