Summary
They were walking back from the library after Sirius finished helping him revise his latest potions essay. It was a quiet night, save for the rainfall outside. They were approaching the separation to their respective Houses when thunder roared.
Regulus startled and grabbed onto the closest thing he could; his brother's hand, still not over his long time fear of storms despite almost being of age.
Sirius took his hand without hesitation, squeezing tight for reassurance as Regulus attempted to gain his bearings and act like an adult.
That's when there was another noise. It wasn't frightening like the thunder was to Regulus, but to Sirius, it appeared like the approaching footsteps down the hall were straight from his nightmares.
He dropped Regulus' hand.
Or; Regulus returns to Hogwarts after Sirius runs away and expects things to be the same. They're not.

Summary
After one too many indecent incidents, Regulus and James aren’t really allowed to be alone together at parties. In Sirius’ words, “Stop fucking when I’m in the same building as you.” This proves pretty difficult though when Sirus' Halloween party rolls around and they haven’t been able to see each other in over a week.
When Regulus locks himself in the bathroom trying to get himself together and not jump James’ bones, he gets a call.
Technically, they don’t break the rules.

Summary

Sirius has made sure of that, keeping his mentally unwell brother far away from the object of his obsession. Funnily enough, it's James who comes to Regulus. Well-meaning, curious with no idea what he's getting into.
The lines between love and obsession are blurry and hard to read.
“No, we’re friends now, remember? I know it hasn’t been long, but I think I’m learning you, aren’t I?”
Are you?
James had Regulus, but he didn’t know him. Regulus knew James but didn’t have him.
“Maybe you could,” was all Regulus could say in response. That was a truth. James could probably learn Regulus inside and out. Regulus would offer that if it didn’t mean breaking down the fixation—the rotting truth behind their growing relationship.
