"Home is just a memory.” Samuel whispered.
Johanna looked at him. His face had softened, just slightly, and she saw in his eyes the same hollow grief she had been carrying in her chest for months.
"Yes," she said. "It is.”
They sat together in the darkness. And Johanna, who had not touched another person willingly since the night in her father's study, reached out into the cell for Samuel’s hand.
His fingertips brushed against hers, cold and callused.
"Let's try escaping together," she said. "Even if it doesn't work. Even if they catch us. Even if home is just a memory." She paused. "Let's try."
He looked at their hands. Then, slowly, he nodded.
"Together," he said.

Summary
