"I'm not trying to be a jerk. Okay?" He sees the way Will looks like he's about to cry, "But we're not kids anymore. I mean what did you think, really? That we were never gonna get girlfriends? That we were just gonna sit in my basement all day and play games for the rest of our lives?"
"Yeah. I guess I did. I really did." Will grabs his bike and starts pedaling away.
"Will. Will! Will, come on!" Mike screams after him, but it does nothing to stop the other boy.
He stares at the way Will left and just stands in one place for some time, feeling the wind caressing his face. Mike starts feeling deep regret, he didn't mean to lash out and say that. What if Will vanishes again on the ride back home and Mike loses him again?
