“Is it worth what happened today?”
Hashirama doesn’t answer him. Instead, he rolls over, barely stifling a yawn. He’s wearing the spare nightshirt Madara left out for him, navy blue against his tan skin.
“These feelings,” he says. “They’ll be gone in the morning.”
Hashirama grieves. Madara waits. It's not perfect but it might just be enough.

Peter’s mum smiled warmly at him. “You must be James. Peter’s told me…”
James grew confused as the pleasant expression on her face melted away. Her eyes widened, then darted up and down as she looked him over more closely. She seemed to grow three shades paler and looked nearly faint.
“Mum?” Peter asked, concerned, coming to her side, “Are you okay?”
Peter’s mum stumbled slightly in place, then grabbed her son's shoulders for support. She seemed to squeeze a bit too hard, the sandy-haired boy wincing before looking up at her.
“Peter,” she said weakly, barely looking at him, “You didn’t tell me James’ last name.”
OR
James Potter's parents died when he was just a baby. He doesn't know much about what happened, just that it means his uncle Ron is raising him now. Ron is very careful about keeping him safe within the confines of the Burrow's protective wards, but as James gets older, he gets restless. As Ron increases James's contact with the outside world, it becomes clear that he can't keep his charge in the dark about who he is forever.
