“Who is Zaddy Night Shift?” Mel asked, at least two decibels louder than the entire previous conversation. Princess started walking over. Samira put her face in her hands. “I am Zaddy Night Shift,” Dr. Ellis said, breezing by. “And I don’t play house. I provide a loving home for the right woman.”
“My heart belongs to another, king.” Trinity said absently. Mel looked at her in confusion. “Not you, Melancholy.”
“I do not understand what’s happening.” Mel announced cheerfully.

'can i kiss you?'
'yes,' samira says simply, a brief look of utter relief crossing her face that makes trinity smile as she leans forward and presses her lips against samira's. she tastes like wine and popcorn and spearmint toothpaste and trinity presses her knee between samira's legs. she feels a wound begin to close, somewhere deep inside her, as samira scrapes her teeth along trinity's bottom lip: still gentle, still kind. they kiss for a little bit more, then back up, rest their foreheads against each other."

He could see it.

The woman shifted into a language that Robby didn’t speak, but Princess’s eyes went wider than he had ever seen them.
