    Timothy Drake had known the meaning of the phrase “Trial by Fire” long before he learned the actual phrase. Learning how to not only use a camera, but be able to use it while tailing Batman and Robin was a trial by fire. His entire experience being Robin started and ended with a trial through fire.

    To be perfectly honest, Tim had never known what life was like without being forced to figure it out on his own. He had always been singular in that way.

    The most recent incident with Ra’s Al Ghul got Tim on the radar of a secret government organization. They brought him in and took him to the most boring interrogation room Tim had ever seen. The room was only topped by the person they sent in to interrogate him.

    Call it any number of things, fate, luck, sheer fucking coincidence, but he’s in the right place at the right time to catch someone hollering about Gold Roger’s son being put up for sale.

    Even if it’s all a pack of lies, no kid deserves the fate that’s coming from being a look-alike with Roger. Shanks finds his feet moving of their own accord, the whole world narrowing to just this thin, insipid man, beaming from ear to ear as he talks about an auction for a child.

    “What,” Shanks drawls in his best ‘Saint Fearsome Figarland’ voice, “Is this nonsense?”

Gaban could practically feel the vibrations from the growl building deep in Roger’s chest and he loved it.

     

    “C’mon, marido, hunt me.” Gaban said as he darted deeper into the foliage. “Don't you want to feel me pinned under you?”
