The Countdown gives the world one week — 168 hours.
Generally human reaction is predictable. Panic and hoarding and reclusion. Denial and cable-watching and shrugging over potluck dinners, though next week’s plans are suddenly a little tentative. Pilgrimage to holy places and proselytizing on big stages and a good number drink bleach. People sell their homes, quit their jobs, kill their bosses, spend lifesavings on life-long dreams or feed it into a machine, and the economy braces at the tickle of a devastating sneeze. As the days drip away, Christmas lights go up, the rich leave in spaceships, neighbours sing hymns in the street, cities burn, a dog curls up and falls asleep.
Before all this — six days before the clock hits zero — Byun Euijoo steals his mother’s car, leaves in the night with just his phone and a grade 12 essay that he never submitted, and Wang Nicholas sets out hitchhiking.

Maki thinks for a minute and shakes his head, “No, I think your straight rep is pretty strong. Don’t worry.”
“I am gay, though,” Jo says casually, “they’ve got terrible gaydar."

Summary
This isn’t the first time they’ve smoked together. Maki introduced Jo to the wonders of cannabis a few months prior, and they’ve been smoking every weekend since. At first, Jo was all shy about it, waiting for Maki to bring it up first or making subtle suggestions instead of outright asking.
Now, he’ll raid Maki’s stash without hesitation— especially since he learned how to roll. He’s not the best at it, but Maki doesn't have the heart to tell him that.
Maki watches Jo breathe before taking another hit, and then pass him the joint held between two elegant fingers. He blows the smoke out the window like a gentleman. Maki wouldn't mind if he blew it right in his face.

Summary
Euijoo meets Fuma's eyes for as long as he can stand, then looks down at his own lap. He doesn’t really know what he’s asking. But he knows that it’s strange to be asking it: and to be so willing to do whatever it is Fuma answers.
“Mm,” Fuma says, a drawn out note. Then the bottle, placed precariously on the carpet between them. “Does our Euijoo have something he wants to do?”
Or: a drunken mistake, a pair of handcuffs, the way shame bleeds into desire. Euijoo takes his time figuring it all out.

Summary
Yuma is a bartender who meets Fuma, a wealthy businessman. They connect, and there's a spark, but Fuma is constantly traveling and never in one place for too long. Over time, Fuma keeps coming back to the hotel to reconnect with Yuma. They both try not to get too attached (but can only keep that up for so long).
