Cami tilted her head, looking at the painting from a different angle. But she only saw the same thing, a desperate sort of longing. The type that felt like it could kill.
“Do you think it veers more towards love or hatred?” She turned to the voice and saw a man with green eyes and a small smile. Something snapped inside her, or relaxed. Something odd.
Cami shook her head, “Why can’t it be both?”
“Ah yes, hatred and love are so often intertwined. Passion in its most extreme form.” She gave him a curious look and he held out his hand, a signet ring with the letter M on a finger. “Nik, it’s a pleasure to meet another who is passionate about art.”

Loud and relentless, but when she’s there, the night becomes something he can get through. Somewhere along the way, she turns into the only person he actually wants to see.
OR Langdon comes back after his ten month hiatus and immediately gets put on night shift with Mel because of a shortage AND Mel gets boba.

Summary
They were friends.
And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.

Summary
Her thoughts are as follows: If Subject A (Mel) shows signs of discomfort, Subject B (Frank) will try to help, and vice versa. Therefore, if A is in need of a replacement for an article of clothing, B will do his best to provide A with one.
It’s shaky logic, all things considered, but it’s enough.
All that’s left is for Mel to put her hypothesis to the test.
Or: Mel can’t stop stealing Frank’s clothes. It’s becoming quite the problem.
