Summary
Taken hostage by the savage they call King, Roman Roy finds himself under fickle circumstances as he weighs his options. The chieftain, Lukas Matsson, desires his family's power and territory, bitter by the disagreement that sparked a rebellion among the Vikings to make their Northern lands of the realm its own kingdom. Knowing Roman's status as a sweet-talking peacekeeper, and a favoured noble of King Jeryd's, he has taken Roman for ransom. Shall Roman aid his captor in the hopes of his own advantage, or shall he remain loyal to his family, the house of Roy, where the great Lord Logan Roy may spare his foolishness for being caught in the first place?
The situation becomes even more complicated when stories are exchanged between the chieftain and the young lord, causing their understanding of each other to deepen.
