    Summary

“Your friend, Eleven, disrupted your assimilation,” Vecna explains, so close Mike can see his crooked, rotting teeth. “The others were gone in a moment, absorbed into my psyche, but you… linger.” His expression darkens on the word, bitter that things didn’t go as planned. “But no matter. It won’t last long. You are simply an echo of a dying mind. You’ll lose yourself soon enough. Lose yourself… to me.”

Dread settles in Mike’s stomach. Unlike the others, he doesn’t even get the privilege of a proper death.

This hell is just for him.

Or: Trapped in Vecna's mind, Mike tries desperately to hold onto a fading sense of self. Meanwhile, the Party in Hawkins struggle to pick up the pieces and prepare for their final confrontation with the evil that has overtaken their town.

This is a continuation from my s4 rewrite in which Mike never made it to California, covering the 18 months between s4 and s5. Read Part 1 first!!

    Bookmarker's Notes

I finally finished the last chapter after waiting a while so I could savor it. This Mike is genuinely, I think, my favorite Mike of all time. I think this is what his character was supposed to be—combining his kindness, his self-deprecating and depressed side, his stubbornness, and all of those traits playing into his incredible mental fortitude and approach to the situation here. Him slowly losing his sense of self is so trippy but described so well. Also it's kind of hard to explain but in both parts (especially the first), Mike feels like an actual teenager to me, albeit one who has been through a lot of pain in his life. His characterization is just amazing. And the poetry still means so much to me.

The POVs of the others were both a break from everything Mike was going through and depressing in their own right. But Will's POV where he learns to take the moments of joy as they come, despite all the grief and trauma, applies to a lot of this fic. So so well done

    Summary

They were finally free. The sky had returned to its natural blue, the ground closed up, and the fog of black smoke no longer hung over Hawkins. Mike had to keep reminding himself of that fact. Everything was perfect.

    Maybe too perfect.

    OR

Post season 5 fix-it, where everyone was Vecna'ed and the world did "end," and now they have to figure out how to get back home. But the way to get home might suck more than if they were to stay in the messed up, distorted version of Hawkins. At least for Mike.

Ahhh it took me too long to start reading this wow.
Canon (to me). This is a take I have yet to see with the time shit and merging of worlds and memories. One thing I'd really like to note is Mike and Nancy's Conversation in his room I loved it so much. Mike had so much to work through but he does it goddammit I'm proud (the summary of all my favorite Mike fics really)

This was so comfort/hurt/comfort. It's so human, and probably a very realistic modern AU for them, y'know? Like if they met in the real world this would be their story. I didn't even realize I just read through 20,000 words till I looked at the comments lol.

    Summary

"Wednesday - it’s me! It’s Enid!” Enid’s breath hitched as she felt Wednesday’s hand begin to shake, and she watched in disbelief as Wednesday blinked. For a second, it almost looked like Wednesday was trying to blink away a tear.

    Well, that couldn’t be right.

“You are not Enid. Enid’s dead.”

There was a beat. Then another.

    “WHAT?”

    ---

Or, what if Rosaline Rotwood's dirty trick was to trap Wednesday in a time loop, forcing her to relive the very vision she was trying to prevent: Enid's death.

Holyy shit. Honestly one of the most nuanced time loop stories I've ever read or seen?? And the fact that it was in Enid's perspective stuck out to me from the start, but then you slowly realize how clever and fitting that is. There's so much I love about this fic, like Wednesday's character development for starters, it's so well done. Wow

    Summary

“So, I’ve been thinking," Mike throws his head back into the sofa’s head rest. “You know how I talk about girls all the time?”

The pencil in Will’s hand freezes for just a moment, something Mike wouldn’t have been able to tell at all if he wasn’t staring right at Will’s hands to avoid his gaze. “So?”

    “Well, I’ve been thinking, right?”

Will looks up, but Mike isn’t looking back at him. He’s picking at a loose thread on the couch cushion. “What, about girls?”

“No,” Mike shakes his head, “about boys."

Will nearly chokes on his tongue. “You’ve been thinking about boys?”

or, mike conducts an uncomfortably elaborate semester-long personal inquiry project on how to be a better straight ally to his gay best friend. for educational reasons only. obviously

    AHH
Beautiful, sweet, funny, Mike is trying his best oh boy. The dialogue is so awkward and genuine in the best way. I'm low-key (edit: high-key) emotional rn. Also, I really do appreciate the subtle demisexual rep <3
