Bren knows, immediately upon waking, that he is not somewhere safe. Despite what other faults he may have, Bren has always been rather good at situational deduction. He was trained to hone it very well, for events precisely like this.
Four things become clear:
One. He is in someone else's home. His dorm does not blanket him in this disarming kind of silence.
Two. The home is occupied; a light, unknown voice emanates from somewhere above.
Three. There is the low, oscillating thrum of arcane presence. Powerful unknowns surround him.
