Summary
During the chaos of the recording of St Anger, Lars and Kirk find themselves turning to each other for comfort. Their closeness soon blurs the line of friendship and romance when Lars discovers that Kirk has been in love with him for years. Making things even more complicated is James, who has returned from rehab and wants his ex Lars back. Tensions in Metallica HQ reach breaking point when Kirk refuses to let Lars slip away from him that easily.

Lars sits in the cold sand, his jeans damp against his skin, with his boyfriend’s head resting in his lap. Kirk’s eyes are closed. Neither of them has slept in what feels like days, kept awake by the relentless cycle of parties, booze, drugs, a packed schedule— and, for Lars, a few nightmares. He runs a hand through Kirk’s hair, careful not to wake him—not that there’s much to wake from. He knows Kirk isn’t truly sleeping, just drifting, stealing a moment of stillness from the permanent noise of their lives. For now, Lars is simply grateful for that—grateful that Kirk has found a few quiet moments before they have to fly out again.
