Summary
Alex Claremont-Diaz is a star on the rise.
A wildcard up-and-coming new actor who finds himself thrust into the Hollywood limelight when he’s nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his small-budget indie movie. It’s his more than he could have imagined in his wildest dreams. That is, until he discovers that also in his category is his mortal enemy: Henry Fox – generically attractive, completely boring and part of an acting dynasty that stretches back generations. In short, everything Alex hates about Hollywood.
So when a comment Alex makes about Henry in an interview goes viral, and the two find themselves thrust together through awards season, Alex can’t help but think his dream has become his worst nightmare.
Except, maybe – just maybe – Henry isn’t quite what he seems.

‘Ah the joys of student living,’ Henry says, smiling at Alex. There’s something warm in his eyes too despite the cool blue colour. ‘I see you found the dress code,’ he says smoothly, giving Alex a sly smile. His voice is smooth, honeyed and rich even over the vibrations of the music.
Alex’s brow furrows. ‘Dress code?’
Henry pauses. ‘You’re wearing green, are you not?’
‘Green?’ Alex asks, looking down at his shirt and then back to Henry, in a short sleeved yellow button up shirt, then to Pez in lime green. He looks around again – two girls on the dance floor dancing together, one in a deep green velvet dress, the other in a khaki jacket; a group next to them, all in red; someone dancing in yellow dungarees. Everyone around them in one of those three colours.
Oh, fuck.
‘This is a stop light party,’ Alex says dumbly.

Alex grips his hand on the poker again. “Who the fuck are you?” he asks through gritted, chattering teeth. “And why do you have a key?” His mind is spinning a thousand miles an hour. What if this guy is a former guest who had his own key cut? What if he’s been waiting to pounce after seeing Alex arrive alone? What if he actually was working with Shaan?
"Oh, fuck," he says. The word sounds different in his mouth, like it’s something new, crisp and barely used, not like it does coming from Alex’s mouth – well-worn, with an alarming frequency. Something seems to dawn on the man. Alex really, really wishes that he’d bring him up to speed. “Right,” he says, “yes. My name is Henry, this is… well, my house and I think I’ve monumentally cocked up.”
