For his uni project, Phil Lester needs to write a romance script. For the sake of realism, he decides to base it on something familiar: his grumpy, emotionally unavailable law student roommate.
Dan Howell does not believe in love. He definitely does not believe in romance. And he absolutely does not agree to being turned into one.
But as Phil starts writing, capturing small moments, quiet routines, things that shouldn’t mean anything, it becomes harder to ignore how little he’s actually changing. Because the problem with writing a love story about real life is that, at some point, you have to decide where the fiction ends… and what it means if it never did.
(or: Phil writes a romance for class. Dan accidentally ends up in it. This is, unfortunately, not hypothetical.)

That’s when the TikTok tarot influencer and ‘mystic’ AmazingPhil crashes into his life, reading his cards (much to Dan’s disbelief) and offering his (unwanted) help.
But once the effects of the curse start to become too dangerous, Dan has no choice but to accept Phil’s help and welcome him into his life, along with his cards, crystals and magic spells, and they need to work together to uncover the truth about Dan’s curse and Phil’s birth prophecy.

Dan grew up in a healthy home so he never went into youtube. He did, nevertheless, became an emo boy and moved to London for Uni, and dropped out and now he's got this cool group of friends, a safe space, and very strong opinions about society. Still, he feels like something is missing.
Phil attempted YouTube but lacked the motivation to go on, so he hid the entire channel and tried working as an editor, but his life in Manchester was holding him back and he didn't feel like he had a place there anymore. So he moved to London and got in contact with PJ, an old friend, in hopes of finding whatever is missing in his life.
OR
Dan and Phil never met but the Universe pushes them together nonetheless.
